International W(human)’s Day

Editorial

The 8th of March is the “International Women’s day”, the day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the globe.

For long time women have been marginalized and excluded from decision-making roles and precluded resources to accelerate what nowadays is the break down of entrenched cultural and historical barriers. For long time girls have been denied education, limiting the possibilities for gender equity and perpetrating vulnerable forms of employment.

In 2021, in a context exacerbated even more by the global pandemic, women are still paying and fighting against relics of the past that consider them “less”: less good, less smart, less capable, less behaved.

This NEU issue highlights the long way and the obstacles to reach a gender equality at European and international level and recognises how women’s rights are human rights in every field of knowledge, work and life.
