2024 and the stakes are higher than ever, with pressing issues such as the migrant crisis, conflicts in Ukraine, and the longstanding tensions between Israel and Palestine hanging in the balance. In both Russia and the USA, these elections are not just about choosing leaders; they are about shaping the trajectory of nations and influencing the course of international affairs. One of the paramount concerns that will be impacted by the election results is the ongoing migrant crisis.

The conflict in Ukraine, which erupted in 2014, and continued in 2022, has been a significant driver of displacement, forcing thousands to flee their homes. The election results in Russia could shape the country’s response to this crisis, determining whether it adopts a more open and compassionate stance or continues with a more restrictive approach.

On the other side of the globe, the United States has grappled with its own immigration challenges, from the southern border with Mexico to the global refugee crisis. The outcome of the election will undoubtedly influence the direction of U.S. immigration policies, determining whether they will lean towards compassion and inclusivity or take a more restrictive turn. The wars in Ukraine and the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, particularly between Israel and Palestine, add another layer of complexity to the global scenario.

The outcomes of the Russian and U.S. elections will play a pivotal role in shaping how these conflicts are addressed on the international stage. In Russia, the annexation of Crimea and support for separatist movements in eastern Ukraine have strained its relations with the West. The election results could determine whether Russia continues on its current course or seeks a more conciliatory approach, potentially paving the way for diplomatic solutions to the conflicts in the region. As of December 2023, Putin enjoyed the positive support by vast majority of Russians – around 85%.

Likewise, the United States, as a major player in international diplomacy, will face critical decisions regarding its involvement in conflicts around the world. The resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has long eluded leaders, and the outcome of the U.S. elections could determine the level of U.S. engagement and the approach taken to broker peace in the region. The global community is watching these elections closely, understanding that the choices made by the citizens of Russia and the United States will reverberate far beyond their borders. The leaders chosen will not only shape the domestic policies of their respective nations but will also influence the dynamics of international relations.
