Transport: new calls for proposals to support the infrastructure projects across the European Union

The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) Executive Agency has published the Connecting Europe Facility – Transport calls for 2023. The CEF Transport programme is the key EU funding instrument for the development of high performing, sustainable and interconnected Trans-European transport networks, with a focus on the nine Core Network Corridors.

The calls support the European Commission’s vision of a future sustainable transport system, with smart and resilient solutions to interconnect Europe. Their aim is to increase the sustainability of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), to help achieve the European Green Deal’s goal of reducing transport emissions by 90%. 

The calls cover the Core and Comprehensive TEN-T networks in the following areas:

• Railway lines

• Inland waterways

• Seaports and inland ports

•road safety

• Rail-road terminals

• Multimodal logistics platforms

• Multimodal passenger hubs

• Smart and interoperable transport applications

• Safe and secure mobility

• Infrastructure resilience 

11 calls has been published for a total of 44 topics with a total budget of 7 billion euros. Most of the calls are divided into the General Package (intended for projects in all Member States) and the Cohesion Package (intended for projects involving the beneficiary States of the Cohesion Fund).

A project proposal may be submitted by one or more Member States, or by international organisations or public or private bodies established in an EU Member State, with the agreement of the Member States concerned.
