A Euro-skepticism syndrome?

In the meetings, in the interviews that we made and in the opinions of people we met at the conferences and workshops in Brussels, the picture of the European Union that emerges is quite ambiguous. The skepticism about its future seems to be really deep, especially for those who currently live in the Member States of the Union. On the contrary, the attitude of people living outside the EU and waiting to join it, sooner or later, could not be more positive about it.

The question that rises at this point is: could this pendulum movement of the public opinion be due to what we can call “a taken for granted” syndrome? Would it be the same if we would lose all the advantages that today the Union gives us? This question is tricky. The answer is not clear, but, more than a legitimate doubt arises.

It could be ironic to discover that, beyond the safe rules of our system, the solution for many would be re-entering. If it would be still possible.
