Fit for 55: it’s time for a European Green revolution

Editorial

Europe is ready to launch its ‘Green Revolution’: on July 14th the European Commission presented “Fit for 55”, a package of measures aimed at reducing net CO2 emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The goal is to transform the face of the Old Continent, so as to make Europe a global standard-setter for the energy transition, and the first climate-neutral continent by mid-century.

In the implementation of the plan, future industrial alliances will play a fundamental role, as conceived within the EU Industrial Strategy, with the aim of promoting technological growth in advanced and strategic sectors and letting compete European companies on a global scale.

All this will have huge costs, both for public budgets and for citizens. But it is a path with no alternatives.

In this issue of NEU, the last one before the summer break, we will try to analyze the “Fit for 55” measures along with EU resilience for the devastating consequences of arising natural threats.
