On 15 December, the European Commission will launch the new call for proposals within the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme.

The programme aims at protecting and promoting the rights and values enshrined in the Treaties, the EU Charter and international human rights conventions, in order to support and further develop open, rights-based, democratic, fair and inclusive societies based on the rule of law.

Specific objectives correspond to the following strands of activity:

  • to protect and promote Union values (Union values strand);
  • to promote rights, non-discrimination and equality, including gender equality, and to advance gender mainstreaming and the mainstreaming of non-discrimination (equality, rights and gender equality strand);
  • to promote citizens’ engagement and participation in the democratic life of the Union and exchanges between citizens of different Member States, and to raise awareness of their common European history (citizens’ engagement and participation strand);
  • to prevent and combat gender-based violence and violence against children (Daphne strand).

The work programme aims to support a comprehensive and intersectional approach and specific actions to promote equality, tackle discrimination and improve responses to racism and xenophobia in the form of hate speech and hate crime, both on- and offline.
