EU-Brazil relations in the past years has focused largely on their commercial “entente”, the EU being one of Brazil’s biggest trade partner with € 34 billion in exports to and € 34 billion in imports from Brazil in 2021. Besides trade, what has always tied the EU and Brazil together is the common value of democracy. Nevertheless both those two pillars of collaboration are currently under stress as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and environmental concerns on behalf of EU leaders permeate the debate between the two.
